London - England national team manager Roy Hodgson delighted to see the debut of Harry Kane's okay Three Lions squad. However, he also cautioned that what is shown Kane is not necessarily too exaggerated.
After the impressive performance with his club, Tottenham Hotspur, Kane had the opportunity to defend England and marked his debut with a goal just 79 seconds after coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Lithuania.
Kane's performance in the game that no doubt become a major topic in the entire British media. But with the huge pressure that commonly come up with that kind of spotlight, Hodgson immediately try to reduce all the fanfare about Kane because it did not want any excessive expectations.
"When I was just a fan I would be shouting the same thing, but you have to understand that as a coach there are certain responsibilities - not just to Harry Kane but also many other players - ie, you have to think what is good for everything," said Hodgson on ESPN.
"What's best for the team, for all, what's going to make all the running smoothly? We will not stand in the stop him, but on the other hand I hope will have Harry Kane for a long time and I do not want to be the one who urged him so that he flew too high to the sun (and exhausted), "he said.
Hodgson statement is not something new. The same thing he ever said, one of them, with Raheem Sterling while recorded his debut against Sweden at the age of 17 years. Moreover, in the past there were names like Francis Jeffers, David Nugent, and Kieran Richardson, whose career in the national team faded after making a goal in his debut, although Hodgson pretty sure Kane will not like it.
"From what I have seen of it, from what I know about what he has been through in his career, and when I see the quality that he had as a footballer, I have no worries in that aspect," said Hodgson.
"I do not believe it will happen. But I still think of my own and Tottenham also have to be wise, when you are led step forward, in order to continue to be prudent and not just throw praises. You guys (the media) are now asking compliment enough, so let me a little mute, "he added.(detikSport)
