Madrid - Atletico Madrid made a surprise success last season by winning La Liga. However, coach Diego Simeone asked Los colchoneros to soon forget that success.
Atletico managed to break the dominance of Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga by finishing in the top two clubs last season. It was Atletico's first league title since the 1995/1996 season and the tenth in their history.
In European club competition, Atletico are also counted a success. Diego Godin and his colleagues could reach the Champions League final before being defeated Madrid.
Simeone did not want his team swept by the success of last season and guard. For him, the important thing now is this season's competition.
"The best thing is to forget about it and focus on the reality of today, namely Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Sevilla," said Simeone told AS.
"After that, then what will happen will happen. So, we have to keep winning so that we can compete at the top," he added.
"We can not let Sevilla and Valencia away from us because we want to keep on top until February or March," said Simeone.
Until the ninth week, Atletico finished fifth in La Liga standings. They collected 20 points, behind Barcelona (22 points), Sevilla (22 points), Madrid (21 points), and Valencia (20 points).(detikSport)
